The Department of State Health Services maintains this webpage, but pursuant to Senate Bill 200, regulatory authority over Kidney Health Care has transferred to the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) as of September 1, 2017.

Attention KHC providers:

Benefit Summary

The Kidney Health Care Program (KHC) helps people with end-stage renal disease get their health care services. It helps clients with their

  • Dialysis treatments
  • Access surgery
  • Drugs
  • Travel to health care visits
  • Medicare premiums

Eligibility Summary

The program is available to anyone who

  1. lives in Texas
  2. has an income of less than $60,000 per year
  3. has a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) from a licensed physician
  4. meets Medicare’s definition of ESRD
  5. gets regular dialysis treatments OR has received a kidney transplant
  6. can NOT get Medicaid medical, drug, or travel benefits
