- Texas uses improved data to calculate more accurate
maternal death count. DSHS
used an enhanced method to accurately identify Texas maternal
deaths in 2012 (published in Obstetrics & Gynecology, May 2018).
Study results showed that Texas maternal death numbers and rates in 2012
were less than half of what was previously reported. (related News Release)

factors and causes of maternal death. It shows state efforts to address maternal
mortality.

maternal mortality and morbidity, findings from maternal death case reviews,
and recommendations for future prevention.
