What:

Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Ready or Not? Have A Plan” Alamo/McAllen event. This interactive educational tour offers people a chance to create family emergency plans and learn about emergency preparedness in their communities. The tour, which includes 13 stops between Oct. 29 and Nov. 15, is part of the “Ready or Not? Have a Plan” campaign launched by DSHS Oct. 29 to encourage Texans to prepare for disasters.

When:

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2
Media availability 10:30 a.m. including interviews and visuals of the Plan Van, outdoor tent, sample emergency kit, other emergency planning supplies and computer kiosks where people can build their personalized plans.

Where: Wal-Mart parking lot, 1421 W. Frontage Rd., U.S. Highway 83, Alamo. .
Who: Eduardo Olivarez, director, Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department, and representatives of DSHS, Governor's Division of Emergency Management, American Red Cross, 2-1-1 and other public health and emergency response agencies.
Why: Disasters can happen anywhere, at any time in Texas . The time to plan is now, before a disaster hits.
