Specialized Cancer Incidence Datasets and Data Linkages

One of the critical functions of the Texas Cancer Registry (TCR) is to provide datasets and data linkages for research related to cancer etiology, prevention, and control. The TCR is able to provide these services to researchers, but only under strict guidelines. Protecting patient confidentiality is paramount to the TCR and is required by state law and rules (Health and Safety Code, Section 82.009; Texas Administrative Code, Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 91, Subchapter A). Subsequently, data containing personal identifiers (e.g., name, date of birth, address) or information on very small geographic areas (e.g., ZIP code, census tract) may only be released with prior approval from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Institutional Review Board (IRB). Please review the TCR Data Release Policy and TCR Data Dictionary linked below for information regarding procedures for release of TCR data and variables available. Additionally, use of TCR data for presentation or publication purposes should acknowledge the TCR using the requested citation.

If you have any questions, contact the TCR Epidemiology Group via email at CancerData@dshs.texas.gov or call 512-776-3080.
