2012 Reporting Requirements - March 28
Dear Texas Cancer Reporters,
The Texas Cancer Registry (TCR) reporting requirements for cases diagnosed January 1, 2012 and forward continue complying with national requirements mandated by the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The TCR also continues to strive towards meeting these requirements, while at the same time minimizing the burden placed on the Texas cancer reporting community.
Only one additional cancer item is required this year, while discontinuing all 2011 CER Non-NAACCR Standard Data Items, as well as height, weight, and co-morbidities. Collaborative Staging (CS) data items necessary to derive SEER Summary Stage and TNM staging (Table 1), as well as the tobacco related fields (Table 2) will continue to be required for 2012 cases.
Below is the one newly required TCR data item for cases diagnosed January 1, 2012 and forward.
NAACCR Data Item Description
NAACCR Data Item#
RX Summ – Radiation (Required for breast and colorectal cases. As available for all other sites.)
You can reference the Site Specific Factor, tobacco, and RX Summ – Radiation fields in the attached Tables 1 and 2. Please be aware if your facility participates in the “Small Facility Casefinding Data Collection (CFDC) Project”, or opted for the TCR to collect and/or code 2011 cases we will code these data items, for 2012 you are now responsible for submitting these data items fully coded.
The TCR will distribute the 2012 Handbook and Appendix A revisions reflecting all national/state 2012 reporting changes via CD in June 2012. The Handbook will include all data items required for cases diagnosed January 1, 2012 and forward. Appendix A has been updated to exclude the OBSOLETE codes in Collaborative Stage. The complete manual (including OBSOLETE codes) may be referenced at http://www.cancerstaging.org/cstage/schema.html. Be aware that CS 02.04.02 must be used for cases diagnosed January 1, 2012 and forward and submitted in NAACCR Version 12.2 layout.
Currently the TCR is not accepting any cases diagnosed in 2012.
The TCR will once again sponsor expert trainings across the state June–August, as well as host NAACCR and NCRA educational webinars. Information on these opportunities and registration for TCR regional trainings is available on the web at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tcr/training.shtm.
The TCR also continues to move forward in replacing its registry software with Registry Plus™, a software suite of applications provided by the NPCR—CDC. The Web Plus software application will replace both WS-FTP and SANDCRAB Lite (SCL) for secure file transfer (e.g., cancer reporter submissions), as well as abstracting cases. We plan to transition all WS-FTP users within the next two months and SCL users over the next six–nine months. Additional information on availability and training will be sent to all reporters and software vendors as soon as possible.
If your facility participates in the “Small Facility Casefinding Data Collection (CFDC) Project” or you are a CFDC contractor, the 2012 reporting requirements and the SCL-DC replacement, Web Plus will be implemented as part of the 2012 CFDC process.
We appreciate your timely high quality reporting and continued support in the fight against cancer. If you have any questions, please contact your regional representative.
