    Patient Flow Analysis

    PFA Study Coordinator Workshop

    Description of Class: The PFA Study Coordinator Workshop is a course for Texas WIC PFA study coordinators. Issues and concerns facing PFA study coordinators are addressed and followed up with strategies for breaking down barriers. In addition, workshop participants are re-introduced to the WinPFA reports and taught about key statistical data for the purpose of facilitating a discussion on process-improvement standards. The objective is to augment the skills of the study coordinator to increase their chances for success with PFA.

    Who Should Attend: PFA Study Coordinators with prior PFA training
    Length: This training is an 8-hour course, typically conducted over a two-day period:
    Day 1, 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. and
    Day 2, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
    Class size: 10–25 participants
    Accommodations: A room that accommodates 25 people and includes tables and chairs
    Equipment: Overhead projector and screen; tables and chairs; flip chart paper and easel
    Guidelines: Prerequisite: WinPFA Training — Parts 1 and 2. This class can be conducted in one day, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. upon request.

    WinPFA — Part 1 — Introduction to WinPFA

    Description of Class: WinPFA — Part 1 is an introduction to the Windows version of the Patient Flow Analysis software program. This class is designed to give Texas WIC clinic personnel the skills necessary to conduct a PFA study in a WIC clinic. Class participants learn the nuts and bolts of the PFA program through step-by-step instructions and hands-on activities. The emphasis is on teamwork and the use of PFA as a clinic management tool.

    Who Should Attend: PFA study coordinators and WIC directors (if new and have not been through PFA training).
    Length: 1/2 day, typically 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
    Class size: 10–25 participants
    Accommodations: A room that accommodates 25 people and includes tables and chairs
    Equipment: Computers with keyboards, monitors, and printers; overhead projector and screen; tables and chairs; flip chart paper and easel
    Guidelines: This class can be conducted in an afternoon session upon request

    WinPFA — Part 2 — Interpreting the Data

    Description of Class: WinPFA — Part 2 is designed to give Texas WIC clinic personnel the skills necessary to perform an analysis on PFA study data. This class provides structure and illustrates effective strategies for time management, consensus building, teambuilding, facilitating, and generating synergy. The emphasis is on an accurate interpretation of the study data and promotion of a team approach for addressing clinic issues. The class environment is interactive and participants are challenged to “think outside the box” through brainstorming and problem-solving activities.

    Who Should Attend: PFA study coordinators, WIC directors (if new and have not been through PFA training), plus two additional front-line staff from the clinic the PFA study was conducted.
    Length: 1 day, typically 8:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.
    Class size: 10–25 participants
    Accommodations: A room that accommodates 25 people and includes tables and chairs
    Equipment: Computers with keyboards, monitors, and printers; overhead projector and screen; tables and chairs; flip chart paper and easel
    Guidelines: This class can be conducted in two half-day sessions upon request
