What is Safe Return?
- Safe Return is a nationwide identification program that assists in the safe and timely return of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias who may wander and become lost.
How Does the Safe Return Program Work?
- The individual is registered into a confidential database, accessible 24 hours a day throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico with a toll free number.
- Each Safe Return registrant receives an ID bracelet or necklace, clothing labels, and other identification products that include the person's name, ID number, and the Safe Return number.
- If your family member wanders or becomes lost, call the Safe Return number to begin the process.
- Safe Return can fax the person's information and photo to the local police department.
- Anyone finding your family member can call the 800 number and arrange for the individual to be returned to their family or their residential care setting.
