2004 - 2005 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information
Influenza activity in Texas for the week ending April 23, remains sporadic.
Flu activity reports were received from six of the eleven regions in the state. Three of the six reported no flu activity. The other three reported low levels of activity. Last week, there was a report of lab-confirmed flu in a nursing home. However, specimens processed at the DSHS lab in Austin are negative for influenza.
The Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network indicates a slight increase in ILI activity for last week. Providers are reminded that specimens may be submitted to the DSHS laboratory. Contact Irene Brown, SPSN coordinator at 512 458-7676 for details.
Culture positive Flu A was isolated from residents in Lubbock and Bell Counties. Flu B was isolated from a Bexar County resident. Overall, flu activity remains low for the state.
