2005 - 2006 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information
The flu activity level for the week ending March 11, 2006 is widespread. Flu activity was reported in all regions of the state. Overall, flu activity continues to decrease across the state.
Reports were received from all 11 Health Service Regions (HSRs) for week 10. An increase in flu activity was reported only in HSR 7. Activity remained about the same in HSRs 2/3, 6/5S, and 11. A decrease in flu activity was reported in HSRs 1, 4/5N, 8, and 9/10. For a map of Health Service Regions, please visit the following website:

During week 10, culture confirmed influenza A was identified in Bell, Bastrop, Brazos, Burleson, Dallas, Harris, and Travis Counties.
Influenza A H1 has been identified in Texas for the first time this season in a 6 year-old resident of Dallas County and a 25 year-old university student in Travis County. These isolates will be sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for further strain characterization.
Culture confirmed influenza B was identified in Bell, Brazos, Dallas, Lubbock, and McLennan Counties during week 10.
Beaumont ISD reported an outbreak of influenza; however, no school closures have resulted.
No other institutional outbreaks were reported.

Data from the Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network (SPSN) shows a further decrease in ILI activity.
