The Regional Medical Director for Health Service Region 8, serves as the local health authority for all the counties in Region 8 except Bexar, Calhoun, Comal, Dewitt, Frio, Jackson, and Victoria. Health authorities perform duties that are necessary to implement and enforce a law to protect the public health. This may include quarantine, inspection, disease prevention and suppression, birth and death statistics and general sanitation.
