In accordance with Health and Safety Code, Section 108.012(b),"the council (department) may charge a person requesting public use or provider quality data a fee for the data. The fees may reflect the quantity of information provided and the expense incurred by the council in collecting and providing the data and shall be set at a level that will raise revenue sufficient for the operation of the council (department's program). The council (department) may not charge a fee for providing public use data to another state agency. Chapter 108 may be viewed by clicking here.
The Outpatient PUDF contains data on outpatient surgical and radiological procedures from Texas hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. Data are available by quarter beginning with data for fourth quarter 2009 through fourth quarter 2010. The scheduled release dates for 2011 data are: Third Quarter - September 2012 and Fourth Quarter - December 2012. The Texas Public Use Data File (PUDF) has been released through second quarter 2011. Purchasing the PUDF requires a completed Order Form and a signed Data Use Agreement.
The data files for data released include 123 data fields in a base data file, 141 data fields in a classifications data file, 13 data fields in a detailed charges file, and 27 data fields in a facility type code file. Information on the data fields is included in the Data Dictionary, 2011 and information on the facilities reporting data is included in the Reporting Status, 2011 table. The PUDF includes:

Technical Update
An update has been released for the third quarter 2010 outpatient charges file. The record identified in the update does not include a charge and should be deleted from your copy of the Quarter 3 2010 Outpatient Public Use Data File (PUDF).
